Introducing Picket Fence Imports: Their Story

vintage-store-display-picket-fence-imports
Shop Display prepared by Rod and Marie with unique, vintage pieces.

Picket Fence Imports has been recreating valued and loved vintage pieces for personal collections, interior designers,  shop fronts, and displays for over 16 years. It started with Marie’s love for shoe lasts. Marie said that she would collect them everywhere she went and had hundreds in her personal collection. People were fascinated by her unique and incredible collection and Marie and her husband Rod realised that this was a niche market that no-one had tapped into so they began sourcing these incredible pieces of history from overseas and began selling them in Australia.

When the GFC hit in 2010, the business was greatly impacted, as well as her family. Beste around this time began to learn interior design through a course she started taking. Recognising her love for the arts, she realised that perhaps it wasn’t too late to start afresh.

Gorgeous Shower Caps that You Are Sure to Love – Supporting The Cancer Council QLD!

dillys-collection-shower-caps-Cap-Cancer
The Cupcake Shower Cap Design. Supporting Cap Cancer.

Dalia and her mum Sharona, have started a mother, daughter business. They say that the frizzy hair gene has always been a topic of conversation in their family. Being in a home with three women, they say they have spent many hours trying to tame thick, long and unruly hair.

Keeping their hair frizz free in the shower was always an issue and they struggled to find shower caps that could truly meet their needs. Many of the shower caps they found on the market failed to keep their hair looking nice after a shower, as they found that steam and water ruined their freshly styled hair. Other shower caps lacked style and just about all of these shower caps had to be regularly replaced.

Designer Tales: Claudia Rowe | Self-Publishing

Claudia Rowe | Atlas Jones & Co.

claudia-roweHave you ever thought about publishing your own book? Are the days of publishing companies gone and dusted? Could you really turn your idea into a reality?

Well, that is exactly what our creative partner Claudia Rowe did. She started her own small publishing company called ‘Atlas Jones & Co.’ when she hit a number of roadblocks attempting to get her Bum Series books published.

Becoming Self-Published

bum_magicClaudia set up Atlas Jones & Co. to publish her own books. She sent her books to a few publishers but decided after a number of rejection letters that she really had what it takes to make her own books happen. This creative author believed in herself enough to simply go for it, and make her dream a reality. From the reviews and responses from her stockists Claudia was obviously right in taking a risk on self-publishing. She went with her gut-instinct knowing that she had something special with the Bum Book series.

Designer Tales: Sarah Winter of Winter Ceramics

Meet Sarah Winter of Winter Ceramics

Beautiful Blue Bowls and Spoons - Winter ceramics
Blue Glazed Clay Bowls by Sarah Winter of Winter Ceramics

Sarah Winter of Winter Ceramics  is a bubbly personality, a mum of two who has found a passion that brings her daily joy.

Just listening to Sarah chatter away about her passion, as she works with clay, is an inspiration. It makes you stop and ask yourself, what’s the special thing in my own life that makes me tick, that I enjoy, and that makes me come alive? It might be music, art, writing, working with people, riding bikes or a range of other things. There are so many different things that we can take up in life, but the question is have we found that particular passion or a number of passions that causes sun to shine on the rainier days of life. The sort of things that make us get out of bed and help us to look forward to the week ahead.
